Over the past couple of years at Church Resources, I have visited a large number of NFPs in Queensland and NT.

I took on the role of looking after our Members in my own state, because I believed then, as I do now, that we are able to gain some real savings as well as professional advice around procurement practices for the Not-for-Profit sector.

What a lot of our Members may not realise is that we are independent and agnostic in our approach to finding the right solutions for our Members and that our Members are at the forefront of our minds when we consider which suppliers will be the best fit for their organisation.

At a recent meeting, I asked a Member how much they knew about us and what our mission was.

The answer astounded me, as they remember us for providing discounted telephones and office supplies.

Whilst this is true, It only covers a very small amount of the solutions we provide to our Members and the Chef Financial Officer had no idea that we could make them additional savings on Electricity, ICT, Food, White Goods and that we provide some very advanced logistics and supply chain solutions for house furnishing and fit outs, where we provide a one van solution that is often turned around in 24 hours from receiving a request.

I have always thought that our true value, not negating the often better pricing through our Members aggregated spend, is our ability to provide advice and perform analysis that allows our Members to know if they are buying well or can do better for their organisation.

Daily, we pick up existing billing information from our Members and analyse the details against the current market provisioning and cost for these services; then providing unbiased recommendations.

It is not uncommon for us to advise our Members to remain with their existing provider, if the pricing is good, the service is good or they have a compelling reason to remain with them.

We do not provide details of your existing costs to our suppliers, rather, we negotiate based on the need and the pain points.

We then provide the facts for our Members to make an informed decision.

Our role, looking after our Members, is a passion that runs through our organisation and I am still excited every time we make an organisation a savings or an added value, especially when I know that every dollar saved will be used towards delivering their mission, be it large or small.
